Group sets lofty goals

A new group set up to promote the Palmerston district has big plans.

It replaces the Palmerston Business Group, which operated for three years.

The new group aims to encourage more of the million travellers who pass through Palmerston on State Highways 1 and 85 each year to stop in the town.

The development of tourism in the area, including cycle trails and the restarting of the Dunedin to Palmerston Seasider trains, were also important Paul Mutch, of Dunback, chairman of the Promotion of Palmerston and district group (POP), said..

The group would also work with the Waihemo Community board on rejuvenating the Palmerston town centre, and encourage involvement in promotion from others in the community.

Encouraging greater use of the Palmerston rail yards could be another project.
