Aquatic centre upkeep

The Waitaki Aquatic Centre will close for five days from Monday for annual maintenance.

Manager Matthew Lanyon said the swimming complex needed to be regularly maintained to ensure everyone continued to have access to a first-rate community facility.

''The good news is that it's a temporary closure and the pool will reopen in time for the school holidays. It is similar to getting your car serviced. This closedown will enable us to ensure that the pool will continue to operate to the level that our customers expect,'' he said.

The engine room of the pool would be overhauled.

This was purely behind-the-scenes and the public was unlikely to notice any difference once the pool was reopened on Saturday, July 4.
