Presents for family stolen

Kurow police are investigating the theft of a smart watch, tablet and mobile phone from a rural property on State Highway 83 between Duntroon and Georgetown.

Constable Craig Bennett, of Kurow, said the electronic goods were stolen from a house in the Black Point area between August 13 and 16. The stolen items were brand new, still in boxes.

They belonged to a Filipino man who had been working in the Waitaki Valley.

''They were birthday presents for his family who are still back in the Philippines while he's over here working,'' Const Bennett said.

Nothing else had been taken from the property. Const Bennett appealed for any sightings of vehicles or anyone acting suspiciously around the area, where there was a new shed development, between August 13 and 16.

''I'm looking for any suspicious vehicles that have been seen around that property [or information about] anyone who has recently got a new [smart watch, tablet or mobile phone] that they're suspicious of.''
