PM's visit centered on development

Prime Minister John Key will visit Oamaru and Waimate tomorrow.

Waitaki Mayor Gary Kircher said Mr Key would first visit Scotts Brewery, where he was also to meet representatives of Tekapo's Mt John Observatory.

Mr Key is also expected to make an announcement at Friendly Bay about the Alps 2 Ocean cycleway.

He will also have a chance to look around The Galley cafe, before being given a tour of Gillies Metaltech, an opportunity to showcase its work on irrigation developments, Mr Kircher said.

Mr Key will also officially open the North Oamaru Business Park tomorrow.

Mr Kircher said Mr Key's visit was a good chance to show what was happening in the Waitaki region around economic development, tourism and irrigation.

The Prime Minister's visit will include a trip to the Waimate Old Cemetery.

He and the Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean will attend a commemoration there at 2.30pm for local nurses who died when the troop ship Marquette was torpedoed in October 1915.
