Man named in truck company death

Police have named a worker at an Oamaru truck repair company who died yesterday.

He was Robert George Wallace, of Hampden.

Sergeant Tony Woodbridge, of Oamaru, said emergency services were called to a "work-related accident" at  North Otago Truck Repairs near Waiareka Junction about 4.30pm.

However, when they arrived at the  Weston Rd business the 58-year-old man had died, Sgt Woodbridge said.

WorkSafe NZ were at the scene today and are conducting their investigation into the cause of Mr Wallace's death.

Staff at the business were in shock. "We have victim support working with the staff and family . . . a lot of people are quite traumatised,'' Sgt Woodbridge said.

Police and WorkSafe would work together to establish the events leading up to the death, he said.

The death has been referred to the Coroner.
