Visibility to be 'significantly improved' after road widening

Visibility around two bends in Reservoir Rd will be ''significantly improved'' after a project to widen the road, expected to be completed by early February.

Waitaki District Council roading manager Michael Voss said Reservoir Rd was an increasingly popular route for cyclists, horse riders and motorists, but visibility had been a limiting factor.

At present, two bends in the road made it difficult for motorists to see cyclists and other roads users.

The council had bought private land to enable the easing, Mr Voss said.

''By easing the corners motorists will have a much clearer view of what's in front of them and will have more time to make room for horse riders and cyclists.

''We believe it will create a safer environment for all road users,'' Mr Voss said.

The road widening will start after Christmas.
