New Oamaru Club manager Danny Park has big shoes to fill but he is up for the challenge.

Mr Park, station manager at The Hits in Oamaru, replaces Prem Nath, who is stepping down after a 31-year association with the club.

Mr Nath has served as manager for the past 15 years and leaves behind a club with a booming membership and a solid financial position.

Moving from the radio station, where he had been manager for three years, to the Oamaru Club was a ‘‘huge change'', Mr Park told the Otago Daily Times.

‘‘It's a big job - 2500 members, and the club is a huge part of the community and always has been,'' he said.

‘‘I'm just looking forward to carrying on the good work others have done. There's no drastic change needed but hopefully I can help with some little changes where they are needed to keep the place humming.

‘‘I'm really excited about the role and the opportunity it provides. But there's a certain level of anxiety because you never know what to expect when you're going into a new role.''

Mr Park, a Waitaki Boys' High School old boy who has also worked in radio in Dunedin and Invercargill, starts in the role on January 25.

Oamaru Club president Steve Begley said Mr Park had been selected from a strong field of applicants.

‘‘We were extremely pleased by the quality of the candidates who applied for the job and it is particularly good for the club that the person who best met the requirements of the position is someone with long-standing local connections,'' he said.

‘‘We are keenly aware of the work required to maintain and add further value to the club as a community asset and to find new ways of doing business in the face of rapid statutory, technological and social change. This is where we consider Danny's background in marketing and management in the finance and media industries will be a considerable advantage to the club.''
