Injured motorcyclist offers reward

The motorcyclist seriously injured when his bike collided with a sheep on Easter Sunday is offering a reward for information about the sheep's owner.

Bill Young (55), of Oamaru, was travelling on the Weston-Ngapara Rd about 6pm when his bike struck a sheep on the road.

He flew over the handlebars, breaking his ankle, damaging his vertebrae and wrists, and was flown to Dunedin Hospital, where he spent five days.

The sheep was killed.

He has launched a social media campaign calling for people to come forward with any information that could lead to the identification of the sheep's owner.

Mr Young, a self-employed builder, was not insured.‘‘ACC is so expensive for a motorbike.

It's either register it or insure it.

That's why I'm a little upset about it.

"It wasn't my fault. It wasn't the sheep's fault. I just think it's an unfair world.''

He said farmers needed to make sure their stock were secure and not free to wander and put lives of motorists at risk.

"You do have a responsibility to keep your stock fenced.''

Mr Young said the police had approached the sheep farmers in the area, but no-one reported missing stock.
