A 36-year-old man has been charged with assaulting two Oamaru police officers on Thursday night.
Police were called to a domestic violence incident at an Oamaru house and issued the man with a police safety order, a police spokeswoman said.
The man refused to leave and became verbally abusive and aggressive.
The spokeswoman said the man then assaulted the police and was arrested.
Later, he returned to the house and the police were called again.
The man allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted police again.
