$5000 raised for breast cancer

More than $5000 has been raised for the Breast Cancer Foundation in the past few weeks by a determined Palmerston campaigner, who has already raised more than $8000 for the same cause over the past three years.

Waihemo Community Board member Heather McGregor said she became aware in 2013 that two of her friends in the town had breast cancer.

She was later told 13 women in the Palmerston area had received treatment for breast cancer that year.

She was determined to help, Mrs McGregor said.

Annual fundraising morning teas had raised more than $8000 between 2013 and 2015.

Mrs McGregor said she had raised well over $13,000 for the foundation since 2013.

Much of the money had come from people in Palmerston and East Otago, but some donations came from Christchurch and Dunedin.
