Drink-drive charge after two crashes

An Oamaru resident has a date in court after a vehicle crashed into two cars along a suburban street on Monday afternoon.

Police said a 56-year-old man driving a Ford motor vehicle was travelling south along Reed St about 5pm when he allegedly performed a dangerous passing manoeuvre, and hit the rear of another vehicle causing it to spin around before it came to rest.

Sergeant Craig Sew Hoy, of Oamaru, said the four occupants of the hit vehicle were shaken, but uninjured.

The man continued south along Reed St and lost control of his vehicle at a sharp right-hand bend, striking the rear end of a parked Holden ute and pushing the ute into another car.

The man had a reading of 975mcg of alcohol per litre of breath and would appear in the Oamaru District Court on July 27 on charges of drink-driving, reckless driving, and failing to stop to ascertain injury, Sgt Sew Hoy said.
