A second peacock is on the loose in Oamaru's South Hill.
On an Oamaru community Facebook page a resident of Arun St posted a photo of what appeared to be a peahen in a driveway and compared the bird to the South Hill's sometimes screaming peacock, known as George.
The Waitaki District Council has not been able to trap George.
A council spokeswoman said yesterday that there had been "a couple of queries'' about the second South Hill peafowl and an enforcement officer tried to catch it at Fenwick School without success on Tuesday.
She reminded residents any poultry or animal other than a cat kept on a property "shall be effectively contained or restrained within the property ... to prevent them straying on to any neighbouring property or on to any road or public place''.
