The Southern District Health Board is working to manage the
likely disruption from tomorrow's 24-hour radiographers'
strike, diagnostic and support services Otago general manager
Sonja Dillon says.
Because of suspensions of radiographers in the Auckland area
arising from a long-running pay dispute with District Health
Boards New Zealand, radiographers around New Zealand are
walking off the job for 24 hours.
Ms Dillon said patients had been notified if surgery had been
cancelled.
One or two patients on a cardiac surgery list and six to
eight angiography patients would not have operations.
Other operatons might be rescheduled tomorrow, if the
procedures did not involve radiography, she said.
All radiology, including CT, MRI, mammography and ultrasound,
would be affected.
Ms Dillon said life and limb-preserving cover would be
maintained.
A delegate for radiographer union Apex, Bernadette Gourley,
said Christchurch radiographers would go back to work
tomorrow because of Saturday's earthquake, but the rest of
the country's radiographers were still set to strike.
The only thing that could stop the strike was an 11th- hour
deal with the health boards, Mrs Gourley said.
