Between $15,000 and $18,000 was raised to buy firefighting equipment for the Waitaki rural fire unit by the annual two-day Big Boys trail ride at Katiki at the weekend.
Riders came from all around the South Island and one Irish rider was found ''worn out'' by the side of the track after riding finished on Saturday.
Almost 300 riders took part in the first day of the Big Boys trail ride, on the 40km-45km course on Saturday, and 150 riders on Sunday.
