Hundreds of riders, wagoners and walkers are making their way across the Otago hinterland this week, as part of the Otago Goldfields Heritage Trust's cavalcade, which finishes in Ranfurly on Saturday.

Among the nine trails is the Tussock Creek light wagon trail, under long-serving trail boss Chris Bayne, from Mosgiel.

Mrs Bayne has notched up 19 years as trail boss, while her husband Les has taken part in all 22 cavalcades.

This year's light wagon trail, which left the Lawson family's property, Moana, near the top of the Kilmog, on Sunday, has 59 participants, including ''a few newbies'', Mrs Bayne said. Yesterday, the trail headed from El Dorado, inland from Waikouaiti, to Shag Valley Station, on the Pigroot.
