Joining in the Strath Taieri A&P Show turned out well for the Best of British Charity Motoring Day, organiser Mark Paterson, of the Otago Jaguar Drivers Club, said.

About 120 cars, including vehicles from Central Otago and Canterbury, took part in the rally to Middlemarch on Saturday and lined up alongside the usual show events.

''It was a good day and everyone got there successfully.''

The event was an opportunity for British vehicle owners to take their cars for a run, talk to other owners and check out the progress of restoration projects.

Also, being able to watch some show events added an extra dimension to the run, Mr Paterson said.

Rally winner was Stephen Grellet, of Dunedin, who also won the car of the day, with his Sunbeam Tiger. Malcolm McDougall won the people's choice for his MGTF roadster.

The event was a fundraiser for the Middlemarch pool project but the amount raised was not yet known, he said.
