A new team of managers has been appointed to run the biodiversity, recreation and historic conservation arm of the Department of Conservation's southern region.

Nearly six months after last year's Doc restructure came into force, it has appointed three conservation services managers, all long-term staff members: Grant Tremain to cover Fiordland, based in Te Anau, John Roberts for Wakatipu, based in Queenstown, and Ros Cole for Murihiku, based in Invercargill.

Conservation services managers each lead a team of rangers to implement biodiversity, recreation and historic conservation.

Doc's Southern region conservation services director Allan Munn said he was looking forward to working with the trio.

Mr Tremain worked for Doc for 15 years at Franz Josef Glacier, Ohakune and Te Anau, and has been a hut warden on the Heaphy Track.

Mr Roberts had worked for Doc for eight years as visitor assets programme manager in Wanaka and community relations programme manager in Wakatipu.

Ms Cole worked for Doc in a variety of roles for 20 years in Invercargill, including biodiversity ranger (assets), on the kakapo recovery programme, and in technical support.

Similar appointments have been made in Otago. Chris Sydney is managing biodiversity in Wanaka, Mike Tubbs in Alexandra, David Agnew in Dunedin and Dean Nelson in Twizel.
