Three more catchment meetings

The Otago Regional Council is holding more meetings around the region as part of its catchment minimum flow-setting process.

A workshop to consider a minimum flow option and allocation limits for the Waikouaiti River will be held today from 7pm to 9pm at the East Otago Events Centre in Waikouaiti.

Early next month the ORC will host two minimum-flow workshops in South Otago.

The Waiwera River meeting will be held on May 6 from 1pm to 3pm at the Clinton Community Centre.

ORC policy, planning and resource management director Fraser McRae said the workshop would consider options for a minimum flow and allocation regime for future management of the Waiwera catchment, and ORC staff would advise the community about the process for setting minimum flows.

A similar workshop on the Pomahaka catchment will be held the same day from 7pm to 9pm at the West Otago Community Centre in Tapanui.

Mr McRae said the consultative processes had been under way for several years.

Previous meetings dealt with the Benger Burn, Cromwell terrace and Earnscleugh terrace aquifers, and the Lindis catchment.

Information from the previous workshops is available on the ORC website www.orc.govt.nz.
