Wanaka Police have released the name of the woman who died in a crash south of Luggate about 6pm yesterday.

She was Rosemary Margaret Lamb, 54, of Wanaka.

She was killed when the Ford Falcon she was a passenger in left the road and rolled, 3km south of Luggate, about 6pm yesterday.

The 62-year-old driver of the vehicle was flown to Dunedin Hospital and remains there in a serious condition.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Serious Crash Investigation Unit staff are at the site this morning to examine the crash scene.

Senior Sergeant Brian Benn, of Dunedin, said yesterday it was too early to speculate on the cause of the crash.

The serious crash unit was investigating, he said.

A firefighter at the scene described the accident as a ''high speed roll'' and the car came to rest upside down in long grass beside State Highway 6.

The pair were trapped in the upturned vehicle and emergency services were required to remove them.

A three-vehicle crash on State Highway 94, about 10km from Milford, resulted in another person being taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A 24-year-old Argentine woman was trapped in the sedan she was driving when it was hit by a Toyota Prado travelling towards Te Anau about 2pm yesterday.

The woman was taken by helicopter to Southland Hospital in a serious condition.

A passenger in the sedan was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The Prado was driven by a 49-year-old Australian man, who was charged with careless use of a motor vehicle causing injury and will appear in the Queenstown District Court today.

Rain, speed and inattention were believed to be factors in the crash, Snr Sgt Benn said.
