Two people were flown by the Otago Regional Rescue Helicopter to Dunedin Hospital following a single-car crash near Tarras yesterday.

Police said the southbound vehicle crashed into a rock bank and ended upside-down blocking both lanes of State Highway 8, north of Cromwell, about 2.40pm.

Southern deployment co-ordinator Senior Sergeant Craig Brown said the 34-year-old male driver received minor injuries and the 32-year-old female passenger had moderate injuries.

Both were believed to be from overseas.

The serious crash unit was investigating.

The road was closed north and south of the crash site for about an hour.

At the same time, emergency services were also attending an accident on Glassford Rd near Omakau, where a female motorcyclist collided with a sheep.

She was taken to Dunstan Hospital with a suspected fractured collarbone.
