The Clutha District Council has imposed summer water
restrictions which apply across the region.
Chief executive Charles Hakkaart said the stage one "summer
mode" restriction, imposed on Friday, meant watering was
restricted to between 8pm and 8am.
Watering systems and sprinklers could be used during these
times, but must not be left unattended.
The council might grant exemptions on a case-by-case basis to
commercial properties and for irrigation, depending on the
level of restrictions in place, the extent of the dry period,
and the time of the year.
Mr Hakkaart said the minor restrictions were designed to
ensure there was sufficient water throughout the summer and
more severe restrictions could be avoided.
