Three young Clutha women were awarded health scholarships this week.

At the annual meeting of Clutha Health Inc on Wednesday night, Ashleigh White, of Tapanui, Georgia Scott, of Balclutha, and Amelia Shaw, of Clutha Valley, were awarded the 2013 Clutha District Health Scholarships.

Each recipient will receive $1000 per year of study, up to $5000.

Miss White will study health sciences at the University of Otago with the intention of becoming a physiotherapist, Miss Shaw will also study health sciences at the University of Otago, and Miss Scott will study nursing at Otago Polytechnic.

Jenaya Smith, of Clutha Health Inc, said the calibre of the 19 applicants for the scholarships was high. Clutha Health First initiated the scholarships in 2008 to encourage young Clutha people to consider careers in the health sector.
