Contractors are carrying out maintenance work on the Karoro Creek bridge near Kaka Point this week.

Clutha District Council communications co-ordinator Jamie Shaw said scouring protection was being applied to the bridge's abutments (supports).

The ''normal maintenance work'' was being carried out as part of the council's 2013-14 bridge repairs contract, which was awarded to Fulton Hogan, he said.

Pictured are contractors filling sandbags to be used for ''dewatering'' around bridge abutments to complete bridge repairs, after which the sand will be put back.
