A 19-year-old Owaka man was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital after losing control of his vehicle on his way to work yesterday morning.

The vehicle rolled and flipped 100m down Owaka Valley Rd before coming to a rest (pictured) in a farmer's paddock about 8.15am.

The driver hit the verge and overcorrected, Senior Constable Murray Hewitson, of Owaka, said.

The yaw marks on the road indicated the vehicle had gone sideways, dug in and rolled into the water table, where it rolled until hitting the edge of the road and flipping over to face the direction it had come from.

The vehicle rolled ''at least three times and then he walked out of it,'' Snr Const Hewitson said.

The driver ''had a bang on the swede'' and was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure, he said.
