The Pomahaka River in South Otago breached its banks and was flooding paddocks in the Clydevale area on Tuesday.

The Otago Regional Council yesterday warned of ''minor surface flooding of low-lying areas'' and said river levels would remain high for the next one to two days.

The river had peaked at Leithen Glen after heavy rain, but only 5mm was expected there tomorrow. Downstream, at Burkes Ford, the river had risen to more than 160cumecs.
