Road spikes stop car after 160kmh chase

Police used road spikes to stop a motorist who allegedly led officers on a high-speed pursuit in South Otago last night.

The pursuit began when a man driving a 2003 Holden Commodore failed to stop for police about 7.40pm, Senior Sergeant Dave Scott, of the Southern District Command Centre, said.

The driver led police north, reaching speeds of up to 160kmh, until police deployed road spikes to stop him on State Highway 1, just south of Milton.

The driver, a 38-year-old man, of no fixed abode, would appear in court charged with failing to stop, dangerous driving and speeding, Snr Sgt Scott said.
