The good times continued to roll for the South Otago A and P Society's annual summer show in its 148th year.

An estimated 4000 people walked through the gates at the showgrounds in Balclutha, and the society's president Shirley Johnstone said she was happy with the breezy conditions on Saturday.

In past years it had been cold and wet, she said.

''We couldn't have got a better day.''

She said the equestrian events, wood chopping, show queens, trade stalls and ''silly string'' were complemented this year by Masterchef NZ 2014's Jaimie Stodler and Bec Stanley judging the ''Signature Dish'' competition (won by the Whistling Frog Cafe, McLean Falls) and the South Island Holstein-Friesian Championships.

Clutha-Southland MP Todd Barclay, who attended the show for the first time, toured every stall at the showgrounds in his role as a judge and said he had enjoyed the friendly atmosphere.

''I'll be back again next year.''
