Police now know the identity of the man who travelled with missing tourist Christine Lenicker.
Ms Lenicker (29) parked her car in the Homer Tunnel car park in Fiordland before beginning a tramp on March 30, and did not return.
Friends in Nelson reported her missing on April 10 when they did not hear from her.
Police earlier said they wanted to speak to the man in the hope he might have spoken to Ms Lenicker about her travel plans and where she was going on her hike.
Detective Sergeant John Kean yesterday thanked all those who helped to identify the man, especially a tramper who called at the Stratford Police Station and provided contact information.
A police spokesman said the man had returned to Germany and police were yet to speak to him as of yesterday afternoon.
