From rescuing a woman stuck in a vehicle to watching the Highlanders score a rare win over the Force, it was a big week for Clydevale man Michael Williams.

On May 16, he ran to a ute that had crashed off State Highway 1 between Milton and Balclutha and managed to get the young woman who was in the vehicle out a few minutes before it caught fire.

his week, he and wife Julie jetted to Perth to watch the Highlanders achieve their first win over the Force since 2007.

The couple, who are season ticket-holders at Forsyth Barr Stadium, had won the trip to Perth, which included accommodation and flights, in a competition in the Otago Daily Times.

The Highlanders ended a hoodoo and can now sniff the top-six playoffs after their 23-3 win over the Force. They kept their fifth placing and have set up a high-stakes game against the Chiefs in Invercargill on Saturday night.

The Highlanders sit on 43 points, one point behind the Chiefs, and are seven points clear of the seventh-placed team, the Lions.

The Highlanders play the Hurricanes in Napier and the Blues in Auckland to finish their season.
