An 18-year-old Owaka youth is in police custody following a 25-minute pursuit around Balclutha.
Senior Sergeant Brian Benn, of Southern District Command Centre, said Balclutha police attempted to stop the driver in Gormack St about 6.15pm yesterday.
The disqualified driver was known to them, he said.
The driver failed to stop and reached speeds of up to 120kmh during the pursuit.
He was eventually stopped about 25 minutes later at Ashley Downs, near Clinton.
''He stayed within his lane the whole time. It wasn't a mad [pursuit] where he crossed the centre line all the time.
''The manner of driving wasn't too bad. He just failed to stop,'' Snr Sgt Benn said.
