An Alexandra couple were taken to Dunedin Hospital with moderate injuries after their vehicle rolled in a collision on State Highway 8 in the Manuka Gorge yesterday.

Senior Constable Jane Whitmore, of Balclutha, said the couple, in their 30s, received broken bones.

The crash happened about 22km east of Lawrence in the Manuka Gorge just after midday.

Snr Const Whitmore said a white Toyota Hilux was pulling out of the intersection at Burma Rd when it collided with the left side of a westbound red Toyota Hilux.

The red truck landed upside down.

The 47-year-old male driver of the white truck was uninjured, Snr Const Whitmore said.

The white truck belonged to Downer New Zealand Ltd, which declined to comment on the accident.

Traffic from both directions was delayed while emergency services cleared the road.
