More than 100 paintings and artworks by artists from as far afield as Invercargill and Christchurch are on display in this year's Art South Otago exhibition in Balclutha.

Art South Otago secretary Belinda Mason said more than 50 people attended the opening night at the Creative Arts Rooms in Clyde St on Tuesday.

The winners of this year's Trustpower Art Awards were Dunedin artist Judi Smith, who took first prize for The Reader, Lynley van Alphen, from Gore, second for Poppies, and Maxine Evans, from Balclutha, third for Autumn Nest.

The exhibition runs until November 8 and is open daily from 10am to 4.30pm.
