Long-time friends Kendall Waugh (25, left), with horse China, and Larissa Mueller (28), with horse Sprite, have been touring the country on horseback and raising money for the Leg Up Trust, a charity which pairs at-risk youths with horses to teach them communication and leadership skills.
The Hawke's Bay pair arrived in Balclutha last week, after a four-day trek through the Catlins.
They began their trek in late 2014, and, with a few breaks to raise some money to continue, hoped to complete their journey by the end of this year.
They are trekking along the east coast, north towards Dunedin this week.
