Eggs thrown during home invasion

A man in Balclutha had to ''dance'' with a burglar and avoid eggs thrown at him during a home invasion earlier this month.

Sergeant Martin Bull, of Balclutha, said a man returned to his home at James St on the night of April 19 to find a man leaving his property.

The resident then found another man inside the garage and the pair did ''a dance'' on either side of the owner's vehicle, Sgt Bull said.

The man had allegedly stolen juice, margarine and eggs, which he threw at the resident  during the confrontation, before fleeing.

Police were called to the house about 11pm.

Sgt Bull said the man was advised to lock his property, but someone returned later that night and stole a box of Speight's beer.

''They were very bold.''

One of the men was described as 6ft tall, stocky, of European descent, and aged in his late teens to early 20s. He wore a light grey or blue hooded shirt and a beanie.

Police inquiries were continuing.
