20 to speak about changes

Twenty submitters will speak to Clutha district councillors today to say what they think about proposed changes to the council's annual plan.

Clutha District Council chief executive Steve Hill said 127 written submissions had been received.

Last year there were 358 submissions.

Mr Hill said the drop was expected as last year the council was considering a long-term plan.

He was happy with the number of people who showed interest in the key issues which affected them, such as the cost and employment of dust suppressant on rural roads.

Twenty-four written submissions were received on proposed changes to the dog control bylaw and 11 were received in a proposed extension to Balclutha's liquor ban.

Submissions will be made at the council chambers in Balclutha in an early and a later session, from 10.30am today and 5pm tonight.
