A Waikanae, Kapiti, man was airlifted from the Milford Track
early yesterday after being found unconscious by his family
at Mintaro Hut.
St John Te Anau paramedic John Lambeth said the 28-year-old
man appeared to have suffered an "undiagnosed neurological
condition".
Family members tramping with him contacted Doc rangers, who
alerted police and St John.
About 8am, Mr Lambeth and another paramedic were flown to the
hut in the Te Anau-based Southern Lakes helicopter.
The "unresponsive" man was flown to Southland Hospital.
"His condition markedly improved once he was in hospital," Mr
Lambeth said.
He was being held for further tests and observation.
