Police are appealing for further witnesses who were at the
scene of a fatal crash on State Highway 94 near Te Anau on
Saturday afternoon.
Irit Wilder (61), an Israeli woman on holiday, was killed
when the car in which she was a rear-seat passenger hit a
tree Knobs Flat, about 60km from Te Anau. She died at the
scene and police are asking those who attended the crash
before emergency services took over to contact them.
The Toyota Corolla rental car was the only vehicle involved
in the crash. It has been taken to Invercargill for
inspection.
Police said the cause of the crash had yet to be determined.
The driver and front-seat passenger were flown by helicopter
to Invercargill Hospital and are still being treated for
moderate injuries. They are in a satisfactory condition.
