A hunter who died in the Hollyford Valley yesterday has been
named today as a Dunedin man.
Cameron Dickson MacLarty (75) collapsed and died just 400m
from Hollyford Rd near Sunny Creek about 4.30pm yesterday
with his 16-year-old hunting companion, whom police have not
named.
The death is not suspicious and has been referred to the
coroner.
After Mr MacLarty collapsed, the young man made his way back
through the marked trail to Gunns Camp and notified one of
the camp's staff members and a roading contractor of what had
happened.
The 75-year-old was pronounced dead upon their arrival and
was taken by helicopter from the site.
Police said said the teenager did very good job marking a
trail out to the road and assisting the search and rescue
effort.
