Boatie who died in Southland river named

Police have released the name of the man who died in a boating incident on the Oreti River near Invercargill yesterday.

He was Werahikoterernga Kenneth Katene, (65) of Invercargill.

Police were called about 12.50pm after a member of the public found Mr Katene's 2.4m aluminium dinghy partially submerged in the river.

An extensive search and rescue operation was launched, and about 7pm Mr Katene's body was found near to where he was last seen.
