Bluff drowning victim named

Police have released the name of the man who drowned while collecting shellfish at Ocean Beach in Bluff yesterday.

He was Craig Arthur Reid (42), of Invercargill.

Mr Reid was with friends about 2.30pm when he appeared to get into difficulties in the water.

He was brought to shore by his friends who immediately started CPR on him.

Specialist medical assistance arrived soon afterwards and continued CPR, but he could not be resuscitated.

The matter has been referred to the coroner.
