Police have named the kayaker who drowned on Friday while kayaking at Te Waewae Bay, near Tuatapere.
He was Paul Henry John Horrell (51), from Arrowtown.
Mr Horrell was an experienced kayaker and was wearing a life jacket, Acting Senior Sergeant Ian Temple said.
His death has been referred to the coroner.
