''Riding Miss Ferguson'' is a one-man mission to raise money for the elderly of Mercury Bay.
Graham Murrell is driving the nearly 1700km from his home in Whitianga to Bluff on his Ferguson 28 tractor, collecting donations.
Mr Murrell, who passes through Balclutha today, has so far raised about $3000. He left home on March 1.
Covering 80km to 140km a day at an average speed of 20kmh, he expected to arrive in Bluff on Saturday, his 54th birthday.
Getting through the cities had been a ''mission'', he said. His tractor, Miss Ferguson, would be loaded on to a truck to get home.
''It's a great lot of fun. It's a great way to see this country. I don't miss much. You've got to follow your dreams and that's exactly what I'm doing,'' Mr Murrell said.
