Police have released the name of a young hunter shot dead on Stewart Island yesterday.
Samuel Phillip Long, 24, of Invercargill, died at the scene when he was shot my another member of a five-person hunting party.
Police said Mr Long was hunting alone when he was shot.
Police are continuing their investigations and will be speaking with a number of people.
Police were alerted to the shooting by Maritime NZ after an emergency beacon was activated in Paterson Inlet yesterday, Detective Sergeant Grant Johnstone, of Invercargill CIB, said.
