Offenders hold woman at knifepoint

Police were hunting two men yesterday following an incident in Invercargill in which a woman was held captive at her home by a knife-wielding man.

Detective Sergeant Stu Harvey, of Invercargill, said a 20-year-old woman who arrived home from work about 2am on Tuesday was confronted at her door by two men.

She was pushed to the ground and while one offender held a knife to her, the other stole property from her Isabella St house.

''The offenders assaulted the victim before leaving the address. It's probably one of the more serious incidents of this type that we've had in recent times.''

The assault was not sexual.

The woman received minor injuries and was shaken by the incident, he said.

Both offenders were described as about 1.8m tall, of solid build, and wearing dark-coloured clothing.

Det Sgt Harvey asked anyone with information about the incident to contact Invercargill police on (03) 211-0400.

Information could also be provided anonymously to the Crimestoppers organisation on 0800 555-111.
