Police still quiet over Invercargill death

Police will not say yet how an Invercargill man who died on Sunday sustained serious head injuries.

Barry Ross McCorkindale (56), was found at his flat in Thomson St, near the central city, on Friday night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Bowman said yesterday a postmortem had been completed but the cause of the injuries was as yet unconfirmed.

‘‘We are still trying to ascertain how the injuries were sustained . . . We are keeping an open mind at the moment.''

A police forensic team was still working at the house, he said.

A death notice for Mr McCorkindale said he died peacefully. His mother, Dorothy, declined to comment yesterday.

Det Snr Sgt Bowman said no›one had reported seeing or hearing anything unusual in the Thomson St area between 3pm and 7pm on Friday and police were still keen for assistance.
