Invercargill police have opened a homicide inquiry following the death of 28-year-old man last night.
Police were called to an altercation on Dee St in Invercargill about 7.15pm yesterday, and the man was taken to hospital.
He subsequently died as a result of his injuries.
Witnesses are being spoken to and the scene was cordoned off.
