'Alien' movie filming finished

Filming on the latest in the Alien series has wrapped up in Fiordland.

The announcement was made on the film's official Twitter page yesterday, which also showed a photo from the set of Sir Ridley Scott and actress Katherine Waterson.

Bang Showbiz reported very little was known about the plot, other than the film was a sequel to 2012's Prometheus and a prequel to 1979's Alien, the movie which introduced the Xenomorph creature to the world, both films directed by Scott.

Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are returning in the movie and are joined by newcomers Amy Seimetz, Billy Crudup, Carmen Ejogo, Danny McBride and Waterson.

Fassbender reprises his role as android David and said the film featured "aliens coming out of people'' and an "impressive set''.

"Again, the most impressive sets I've seen since Prometheus, which was the original setting. It's a fantastic mixture of high-end technology and primitive elements. The way that I can explain it is the same way that Ridley did Blade Runner.''

The film is due for release in August next year.
