Search resumes for man lost in river

A further aerial search will be made today in the search for a man swept away in a swollen West Coast river on Saturday.

Search co-ordinator Sergeant Sean Judd said the river level was dropping which would assist the search effort for Christchurch man Jeremy Charles Brons, 24.

Mr Brons was swept away when the four-wheel drive vehicle he was navigating became stuck in the Snowy River, a tributary of the Grey River near Ikamatua, about 11.30am.

He left the vehicle to secure a line to the riverbank and was swept downstream.

Mr Judd said with conditions improving he was looking to bring in the Police Dive Squad in the near future.

An aerial search was called off at 5pm yesterday and there had been no sign of the missing man, police said.
