Trees save driver after 25m car plunge

Trees saved a driver who plunged 25m down a bank in his car this morning.

Tasman District Police said the man in his 70s lost control of his car on a bend on the West Coast's Otira Highway.

The car went over a bank near Rock Point, tumbled 25m down, and was stopped by trees just short of a river.

The man was taken to Greymouth Hospital for assessment but police said he was not thought to be seriously injured.

There were no passengers in the man's car and no other vehicles involved in the incident.
