Jackson Bay road open

The road to Jackson Bay was reopened to the public yesterday after being closed for 11 days following a series of slips.

Westland District Council business support and executive officer Rachel Reid called the reopening "temporary'', saying the road would remain open unless there was another slip.

The opening contradicted comments from the council on Thursday, which were that the road was likely to remain closed to the general public for another two or three weeks.

Jackson Bay Craypot cafe owner Meg Ede said she hoped she could make up for lost revenue after having to close her cafe because of the slip.

Waiatoto River Safari co-owner Wayne Allanson said a cruise ship that had been due to call at the settlement yesterday had cancelled its visit.
